    Course Requirements Based on Cessna 152 Aircraft

    Recreational Pilot Permit

    A Recreational Pilot Permit allows a pilot to fly aircraft with up to four seats but the pilot is restricted to having only one passenger. Also the pilot is not able to add a night or instrument rating to this permit.

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • Must be at least 16 years old

    • Must hold a Transport Canada Category 1,3,4 medical certificate

    The course requirements are:

    • 40 hours of Ground School

    • 15 hours of dual instruction

    • 10 hours of solo practice

    • Must pass a Transport Canada written test

    • Must pass a Transport Canada Flight test

    Private Pilot License

    A private pilot license allows a pilot to fly any single-engine, non-high performance aircraft registered in Canada. A night rating, multi-engine rating or an instrument rating can be added to a private license.

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • Must be at least 17 years old to complete the program but can be 14 to solo

    • Must hold a Transport Canada Category 1,3 medical certificate

    The course requirements are:

    • 40 hours of Ground School

    • 45 hours of total time including:

    • 17 hours of dual instruction

    • 12 hours of solo practice

    • 5 hours of instrument training

    • 3 hours of cross country training

    • 5 hours of solo cross country practice

    • Must pass a Transport Canada written test

    • Must pass a Transport Canada flight test

    Night Rating

    A night rating allows a pilot to operate an aircraft at night. This course can be credited towards the commercial pilots license if the pilot enrollees in that course

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • The pilot must hold a valid Private Pilots License

    • The pilot must hold a valid category 1,3 medical certificate

    The course requirements are:

    • 15 hours of dual instruction including:

    • 10 hours of instrument training, 5 of which can be completed in our simulator

    • 5 hours dual night instruction of which 3 hours must be cross country

    • 5 hours of solo practice

    VFR Over the Top Rating

    A VFR Over the Top Rating allows a pilot with a private license to fly on top of cloud, while within certain weather restrictions. This rating is included with a commercial pilots license.

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • The pilot must hold a valid Private Pilots License

    • The pilot must hold a valid category 1,3 medical certificate

    The course requirements are:

    • 10 hours of dual instruction including:

    • 5 hours of simulator training

    Commercial Pilot License

    A Commercial Pilot License allows a pilot to fly for profit in Canada. With this license the pilot can work as a charter pilot, but can only act as copilot in a two crew aircraft. The license includes a night rating and a VFR over the top rating

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • The pilot must hold a valid Private Pilot License

    • The pilot must hold a valid category 1 medical certificate

    • The pilot must be at least 18 years old

    The course requirements are:

    • 35 hours dual instruction including:

    • 5 hours dual cross country

    • 20 hours instrument training

    • 5 hours of dual night training

    • 2 hours of dual night cross country

    • 30 hours solo practice including:

    • 300 NM cross country flight

    • 5 hours night practice

    • Must pass a Transport Canada written test

    • Must pass a Transport Canada flight test

    In order for Transport Canada to issue the license the pilot must also build a grand total of 200 hours including 100 hours pilot in command and 20 hours of total cross country time.

    Multi Engine Rating

    A multi engine rating allows a pilot with either a private or a commercial license to fly aircraft with multiple engines.

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • The pilot must have a valid Private Pilot License

    • The pilot must have a valid category 1,3 medical certificate

    The course requirements are:

    • Obtain the skill level necessary to pass a Transport Canada multi engine flight test

    We usually require about 13 hours of dual training in the Piper Seneca PA-34 to achieve the skill level required to pass the flight test but flight time can vary depending on the student.  

    Single Engine Instrument Rating

    A Single Engine Instrument Rating allows a Private Pilot or a Commercial Pilot to fly single engine aircraft under instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) or in cloud.

    Multi Engine Instrument Rating

    A Multi Engine Instrument Rating allows a Private Pilot or a Commercial Pilot to fly multi engine aircraft under instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) or in cloud.

    The prerequisites for this course are:

    • A valid Private or Commercial pilot license

    • A valid category 1,3 medical certificate

    The course requirement are:

    • 20 hours of simulator

    • 20 hours dual instrument flight time

    • 5 hours ground brief

    • Must pass a Transport Canada flight test
